HARDOX
is a wear-resistant plate characterised by its extreme hardness, high strength and excellent toughness. HARDOX is used wherever heavy wear has to be counteracted. It is used, for example, in excavator buckets, conveyor screws, conveyor cages, truck tipper bodies, etc.
FEIN magnetic core drilling machines
KBM / KBU with speed control + FEIN HM ULTRA core drill bits. KBM / KBU models are equipped with electronic speed control to adjust the speed to the respective drilling task. FEIN HM ULTRA core drills impress with a very high cutting edge hardness due to high-quality carbide tipping. However, HARDOX can only be processed with a FEIN KBM / KBU and a FEIN HM ULTRA core drill up to HARDOX classes 400 and 450. The service life of the core drill here is approx. 0.25 m*
HARDOX steels are categorised into different classes:
- HARDOX 400 Hardness [HBW] 400 | Tensile strength [N/mm²] 1250
- HARDOX 450 Hardness [HBW] 450 | Tensile strength [N/mm²] 1400
- HARDOX 500 Hardness [HBW] 500 | Tensile strength [N/mm²] 1550
- HARDOX 570 Hardness [HBW] 570 | Tensile strength [N/mm²] 1995
- HARDOX 620 Hardness [HBW] 620 | Tensile strength [N/mm²] 2200
To ensure successful core drilling
in HARDOX 400 and 450, the following points must be observed:
- Use only new, unused FEIN HM ULTRA carbide core drills.
- Adjust the speed for the optimum core drill cutting speed (see HARDOX speed chart)
- Keep the distance between the core drill and the workpiece as small as possible by setting a low stroke
- Use plenty of cooling lubricant. Open the coolant tap as far as it will go and ideally also cool from the outside
- Use a low feed force during drilling
- In one go without stopping or retracting through the material. HARDOX reacts immediately to the influence of heat
Properties of the FEIN HM ULTRA core drill
- High performance in all metals
- Cutting edge made of durable carbide
- Cutting edge heat-resistant up to 1,200° C
- Heat-resistant up to 800° C
- Cutting edge hardness of 1,450 HV
- High concentricity (150 µm)
- Cutting width max. 4 mm
